Taos School Board members deny blocking Taos High School English teacher James Abreu from being rehired after he called them armchair coaches. In Sept response they seek dismissal with prejudice and costs. Abreu resigned coaching in March after a board move banning Sunday practices. he did not resign teaching duties.

Bank head named to state international trade commission
Ernest Romero, chief executive officer of Centinel Bank, was named by Gov. Jerry Apodaca to the State International Trade Commission. He will fill the bank officer seat, replacing Manuel A. Ferran. Romero, a Taos native, joined Centinel Bank in 1976 and became CEO in 1977. He attended his first meeting on Tuesday at Deming to discuss boosting New Mexico exports.

Man Arrested in Sager Assault at La Fonda
Espanola man Fred Bourdon was arrested in Santa Fe after Dr. Robert Sager said an Indian assailant beat him in a La Fonda restroom on September 27, ripped clothing, and stole 200 dollars. Sager was treated for facial and shoulder injuries and released from St. Vincent's Hospital.
