No Fund Increase For Forest Roads
New Mexico will receive 1 322 373 in fiscal year 1969 for improvement of highways in and around national forests. Sen Joseph M Montoya notes the funds were authorized in 1968 and signed into law September 13. federal highway administration administers these forest highway funds. planning is done jointly by public roads forest service and the state. surveys plans and construction are handled by the Bureau of Public Roads. Apportionment is based on land area and value owned by the national government within national forests. Montoya says the sum is significant for opening areas to tourism and improving lives near these areas. He did not comment on possible extra funds for completion of U S Highway 64 from Tres Piedras to Tierra Amarilla planned for 1970.
