Sponsored by Taos County Sheriff's Posse, she rodeo participates and leads Taos Junior Rodeo Club and Taos County Junior Sheriff's Posse. Queen will be crowned Sept 22 after rodeo in Tingley Coliseum with horsemanship and personality judged.

Contest Winners Announced by Paint Pot Taos
Forty-lan Taos residents won a free drawing for two airplane rides and twenty one free dinners. The Paint Pot on the Santa Fe Highway, run by Bob and Mrs. Vargas, hosted the month long contest with prizes provided by the Paint Pot and Hickory Tree restaurant. Winners of airplane rides received tickets for a three seat Commanche ride on Sunday Aug 26 with names listed, while dinner winners could collect tickets at the Paint Pot. Also noted are visitors Amy M. McClure of F Paso Texas and relatives staying at Jack Cunningham apartment as they visit Taos and mention of McClure’s prior moves.

Local Men Take Part in Swift Strike Exercise II
Two Taos men are among 70 600 Army and Air Force personnel in Swift Strike II, a two week Strike Command drill in North and South Carolina. Orlando D Quintana, machinegunner in Co E 1st Airborne Division 520 Infantry, stationed at Ft Campbell Ky, entered the Army in 1960 after basic at Ft Ord Calif. Glass fiber mat proved most effective among materials evaluated for protecting newly seeded waterways. Tests showed glass fiber channels withstood about 4 cubic feet per second, over four times the next best option. Other materials included fine mesh jute cloth, close weave paper mesh, asphalt emulsion with hay mulch, paper net with hay mulch, and course mesh jute. Temporary protection is needed until grass establishes. runoff can damage unprotected waterways, forcing regrading and reseeding.
