Cordova explains chlorine levels vary slightly to keep Taos water disinfected and free of coliform bacteria. Monthly BACT testing shows zero coliforms. samples remain within safe limits, with annual metal analyses confirming overall safety under 1977 Safe Drinking Water Act standards.
The Kit Carson Memorial Foundation plans a Sept 22 23 drive to raise funds for La Morada de Don Fernando de Taos and Martinez Hacienda. Local contributions will supplement a $208000 HUD grant for restoration salaries, with 10 percent allowed for materials. James Culbert chairs the drive. board members led by Jacob Bernal form solicitation teams.
Alberto O. Miera, a Penasco teacher since 1947, won a bench award of 1004 plus 6 percent interest from the 1974-75 and 1975-76 school years. He claimed credit for three years of military service and teaching experience was misapplied in salary calculations. The local board has until Sept. 14 to decide on an appeal, with findings due to the judge if an appeal is planned.
The Sagebrush hosts a Renaissance fair Sept 25 featuring musicians, costumed participants, an artisan market, a stream, and staged foods and drinks. Proceeds support the Northern New Mexico Music Festival of Taos with a $12.50 entrance. costumes earn two free drinks. Choreographed by Fargo Gerard and Noel Farrand with helpers.
Taos School District faces a right to appeal after the New Mexico Human Rights Commission ordered Kathy Stoudt reinstatement and $1,000 in damages for sex and national origin discrimination. Superintendent Orlando Ortiz says a board meeting with the attorney is planned in the next few days, with no reinstatement yet.
Mountain Home Health Care Inc faces a $27,000 deficit and asks Taos Town Council for 3775 dollars while exploring October fundraisers. Administrator Patricia Heinen says continuation depends on government support and other revenue sources. Mayor Phil Cantu backs Town aid, with officials seeking funds and exploring options.
Taos Municipal School Board meets Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Taos Junior High Library to review zoning in the district, a plumber need, and a proposed new roof at Ranchos Elementary. Also on the agenda are transportation for student activities, extension of Nelson Vigil's contract as clerk of the works, and a report on current district enrollment figures.
