Moly Mine Plans Fight Water Ruling expansion site shift

Quest Moly Mine seeks to move its water diversion from Red River and Columbine Creek to a new site on Red River between the mill and Columbine Creek. The State Engineer rejected the change to milling and domestic use, citing full appropriation of the Rio Grande system and a potential shortage. The firm appeals, arguing error in the ruling amid later molybdenum discoveries and possible housing for 700 to 1,000 workers.

Former Taos Resident Dies in Utah at 17

Johnny Youngbauer, 17, formerly of Taos, died last Wednesday in Salt Lake City after illness. Graveside services were held Monday at Canon Cemetery in Tooele after a funeral mass in Tooele. He was a sophomore at Tooele High School and born May 8, 1944 in Taos. Survived by parents William and [name redacted] Youngbauer and six siblings. Pallbearers from Taos included Levi Gonzales and Bonfacio Anglada. Hansen Funeral Home oversaw arrangements.

Funeral services for Dolores Gonzales held in Llano Quemado

Dolores Gonzales died August 29 at Embudo Presbyterian Hospital. Funeral at 9 a.m. Thursday at San Francisco de Asissi with Rev. Clarence Galli. Burial in Llano Quemado Cemetery under Garcia's Funeral Home. Survivors include parents two brothers a sister and grandparents. Pallbearers were Welbert Romero Adelaido Romero Jr Richard Martinez Michael Maestas. Eulogy by Abenicio Romero. Rosary at Garcia's Chapel. Taos Fireman Battles Blaze At Gutierrez Homestead

Taos volunteer Jerry Howell directs water onto a burning two story adobe near Ranchos west of Taos. Fire crews faced a rough approach via Ranchilos Rd and Cordilleras Rd crossing a ditch with log bridges before reaching the home known as the old Gutierrez homie recently bought by an Arizona couple. A caretaker resided in part of the building.

Cimarron Fence Job Progresses Near Cimarron Canyon

Construction crews for the Game Department and Philmont Scout Ranch are advancing a fence project along about 1.5 miles of Cimarron Canyon properties to protect vegetation for elk and deer herds. Foreman Hosea Goodwin notes some sections from last summer were damaged by snow and ice and will be repaired. Wildlife in the area remains plentiful with deer elk and turkey observed nearby. Participants include Goodwin Melvin Reed Al Lu jan and Nepo Sena with Judy Coyne visiting Albuquerque returning home after a 10 day visit with Ruth G. Fish.
