Taos town manager Gus Cordova says the town and Taos County sit at an all time low in their professional relationship as talks unravel a joint E-911 system. He warns a county move to its own dispatch would raise costs and hurt citizens while noting current funding, staffing, and detention arrangements.
A roofers incident on August 25 started a fire at the Martinez Hacienda in Taos. The historic building, nearly 200 years old, suffered roof damage. co director Karen Young praised the Taos Volunteer Fire Department for swift work and awaits an insurance adjuster’s assessment.
Taos County's 14 million dollar budget has been submitted to the state Department of Finance and Administration. DFA official Darlene Mares met with county officials to discuss revisions and the county's general fund cash position. A detailed read and revised report are expected before the Sept. 18 Taos budget decision.

Taos officials say a Wal-Mart Supercenter proposal will require months of planning and approvals. Mayor Fred Peralta noted the process could take at least six months as the retailer moves toward a preliminary presentation before the Planning and Zoning Commission in October.
Dozens of Taos leaders gathered on Friday August 27 to inaugurate a fiber optic connection linking Taos and the Enchanted Circle with US West Albuquerque. Mayor Fred Peralta and others said the link marks a new era of faster, cheaper Internet service for businesses and residents, with schools expected to benefit through direct classroom data and staff training connections.
Mark Goldman, a licensed contractor, sues the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation and acting executive director Michael A. Knight in Eighth Judicial District Court. He alleges Knight ordered him to alter deadbolt locks on Wurlitzer houses in violation of building codes and used non taxable certificates to pay for supplies. Goldman was fired in May. Knight had not seen the lawsuit by press time.
