A cluttered classified item promotes a Sierra event at Spiveys Cafe Banquet Room on September 1st 1745 featuring guns ammunition archery camping cameras and more. It touts a Remington booth a lucky hunter contest and sale of items traded up for better hunting gear.
Delegates at the 26th National Convention of the Brethren Church in Long Beach California included Rev and Mrs Sam Harney and Miss Eleanor Mares of Taos New Mexico. Rioting in Los Angeles prompted a curfew threat during the opening day and the Harneys later returned home to Whittier California after an overnight delay. More than two churches were represented by the conference which elected Rev Richard Grant of Winona Indiana as moderator for the coming year and editor of The Brethren Missionary Herald.
County bond chair Jack Brin derbure announced that total U S Savings Bond purchases for the year through July reached 38,876 dollars, up from 16,4 in the prior period. The year's first seven months show strong growth in sales and investments across the county.
Taos officials and New Mexico Petroleum Industries Committee leaders met in August to discuss plaza fire danger and safety practices. The August Newsletter notes concerns over petroleum tanker unloading at nearby stations and calls for stricter through routes and delivery times to reduce congestion.
Red River area manager Erich Wendich reports major upgrades to the slopes. Enhancements include widened catwalks and beginner runs, a new intermediate trail east of Kil Carson, and a cut beginner run on Big Mountain. A 1100 foot double chairlift may replace the current Alpine lift, with a new base lodge addition and expanded rental facilities plus a snow maintenance garage and sheltered equipment.
Taos Boy Scouts of America mass meeting set for Wednesday September 8 at Taos Central High School for all adults interested in Scouting. Carson Council executive Loren Loomis of Albuquerque will assist Taos district committee in presenting a new program Break through for Youth. A short film will be shown and refreshments served.
Taos town residents are invited to a general Taos County Community Action Program meeting tonight at 7 30 p m in the County Court House to elect a representative for the program.
Mayor discusses dedication details with local groups and Taos High School Band providing music. Indian dancers from Taos Pueblo and other tribes entertain visitors. Taos News will publish a souvenir section distributed at the bridge. A temporary but permanent organization will administer aid under the Economic Opportunity Act for Taos County communities.
Siesta Lodge changes hands with Sigi and Martha Klien assuming ownership next week. Sigi, a Red River Ski Area instructor, plans to keep the lodge open through winter. Spillers relocate to Manila as Wess pursues a branding inspector post. Local residents share visits, travel and events including naval training, weddings, and social club gatherings across Wichita Falls and Red River communities.

A hearing continued on whether to transfer and remand Allen to the custody of the Santa Fe Juvenile Court. The motion argues Santa Fe has jurisdiction via a Jan 1 1963 petition and a Jan 24 1983 court order, noting continued jurisdiction as of Aug 30 1964.
Herrera Trujilo of Biandos de Taos testified to the same sequence of events leading to the shooting. He said he heard five shots in quick succession and saw sparks near Gilbert Garcia's direction during the incident. Other witnesses included physician Albert Rosen, surgeon Manuel Garcia, Herrera's father, and State Policeman Ted Drennan.
