Deputies Injured In Highway Collision Near Talpa

Undersheriff Arthur Trulla and jailer Manuel Quintana were injured Saturday night when their car collided with Rosa Trujillo's vehicle on Santa Fe Road near Talpa. Three others, including Trujillo and her nine year-old daughter, were hospitalized at Holy Cross. Trujillo and the girl were later released. Trujillo faced charges for failure to yield. The crash remains under investigation with disputes over right of way.

Aull IWL To Be Feted By Los Alamos Chapter

The Janak Walton League Los Alamos Chapter will receive a national IWL award for exceeding its membership quota and for forming a new Torah Chapter at Farmington. National director David Shaffer says the group has formed every state chapter except Rio Grande in Albuquerque, and will be honored with a brass gong and a gavel.

Transplant Is Disappointment In New Mexico Game Work

The Game Department report details a difficult grouse transplant last week in the Chama region. Four birds, a hen and three young, were live trapped under tough conditions and released at Eagle Creek Lodge near Ruidoso after a two hour flight. Levan Lee, Game Management Chief, plans a repeat next year under a Federal Aid project, with trapping moved earlier when birds are less wary.

Obituary for Tobias Olguin of Rio Lucia at 72

Funeral services were held in Rio Lucia last Sunday for Tobias Olguin, 72, who died at his home Aug. 27. He is survived by his wife Bero Olguin, a daughter Mrs. Fred C. Anglada, a brother Antonio Olguin, and a sister Mrs. Madrilia Sandoval, all of Rio Lucia. Burial was in the local cemetery with Father Lane officiating. Pallbearers were Clarence Fernandez, Rudolfo Fernandez, Reynaldo Sandoval, Felizandra Rodriguez, Livi Gurule and Albert Sandoval. Arrangements were by Garela's Funeral Home.

Miss Pond to Albuquerque for rush week at UNM

Miss Karen Pond will travel to Albuquerque for rush week starting September 6 at the University of New Mexico. Miss Judy Matheny, joined by Miss Gail Hns of Walden Colorado, accompanied to the University of Arizona in June for rush week. Judy’s mother Mrs. Vernon Matheny drove them Tuesday. Judy and Gail will enter the freshmen class at the university’s opening term. Ted Gikas of Pampa Texas visited Tom Priest, Miss Peggy Williamson and Jo Livingston at Casa Cordova last week. Herb Cann has returned to St. Louis to resume work with the St. Louis Post Dispatch advertising department after summer. Miss Claire Morrill, Miss Genevieve Janssen and Ben Hazard hosted friends to celebrate the simultaneous Taos arrivals on August 20 1947. The Kenneth Sahlins, former Taosenos, visited en route home to Springerville Utah from Minnesota.
