Parole Granted to Wilson in Wife’s Death Case

Ernest Richard Wilson 41, convicted last October 15 of killing his pregnant wife in a highway incident near here, was paroled this week. He received a one to ten year sentence on a manslaughter charge. Wilson admitted a fight over the pregnancy and that his wife’s head struck the pavement after a dispute. He had initially claimed she fell from his vehicle. He had been drinking at the time.

Tigers Ready for Homecoming Showdown On Friday

The small strong Tigers host the St Mike s Horsemen in a high school football clash Friday at the field. Injuries have hurt the Horsemen this season while the Tigers, a sophomore led unit, remain fired up to compete after a surprising run. No punts were attempted by either side in the contest.

Turkey Shoot Sunday by Taos Junior Rifle Club

The Taos Junior Rifle Club sponsors a real old fashioned turkey shoot next Sunday October 30 from 10 a m to 2 p m at the outdoor rifle range north of town. Tickets from any club member. The event features 22 calibre and larger rifles shotguns with moving targets and clay pigeons. A highway sign north of the Packing Plant marks the range for newcomers.

Forest Service vows crackdown on illegal tree cutting and transplants

Forest Service officials warn of an all-out campaign to stamp out illegal tree cutting and transplant removal in the Carson National Forest. Permits must be secured through the local Forest Ranger on Armory Place. An Albuquerque man was arrested last week with illegally obtained transplants seized and fined, after the trees were obtained in Taos Canyon and the offender was detained by state police between Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

Archers Have Good Record At Lovelace Ranch Hunt

Archers posted solid success across hunts from October 8 to 11. Bowhunters on Lovelace Ranch netted 39 antelope from 142 archers, while the southwest elk hunt ended with 39 elk among 233 hunters. Gila Wilderness saw 14 elk taken by 95 of 100 checked, and Luna saw 12 elk for 32 hunters.

Obituary for Wilma Arellano of Amalia at 44

Mrs. Wilma Arellano 44 of Amalia died Oct 19 at Bataan Memorial Hospital Albuquerque after lengthy illness. She is survived by husband Benjamin and 11 children. Also surviving are her father Salvador Medina and several siblings. Rosary was recited in Taos and at the family home Amalia. Funeral services were held Monday at Amalia Cemetery under Garcia's direction. Pallbearers listed.

Martinez Victor Martinez Dies In Arroyo Seco Community

V. Martinez, 88, longtime Arroyo Seco resident active in civic and political affairs, died at home January 20. Survived by wife Manuelita S. Martinez and four daughters, including Josefita Quintana and Isabelita Cordova, both of Arroyo Seco, and Eufemia Padilla and another daughter in Denver. Rubel Valdes Rubel Valdez, 70, of Ranchos de Taos died at Holy Cross Hospital on October 9. An active member of the S.P.M.D.T.U., he is survived by an adopted daughter Lucy Martinez of Montrose, Colorado. Pets Available For Adoption In Taos Shelter Week

Pets available for adoption through the Taos Animal Shelter include three long haired cats and one six month old male dog. Call Plaza 8-3778 for the cats and Plaza 8-3108 for the dog. Four dogs and cats were adopted this past week, bringing total adoptions to 34 since the service began.

The Department of Game and Fish planted 347,578 rainbows weighing 97,927 pounds and averaging 9 inches through Sept 30 this year, surpassing 292,801 fish weighing 89,486 pounds and averaging about 9 inches in the same period of 1959 from July to September.

Taos Elementary Pupils to Receive Immunizations

Eight rooms of the Taos Elementary school begin vaccination under the care of school nurses Mrs. Alice Ohlingey and Mrs. Terry Ohlingey. Students receiving diphtheria tetanus and polio shots are scheduled for a third dose this year, with those lacking five year records to obtain missing shots. Parents are asked to complete forms at the school offices or through their doctors or the Health Department in Ranchos de Taos.
