Town meeting attendees questioned the proposed 150 foot wide right of way for a Taos bypass and whether a smaller county road could suffice. An official said the bypass is a federal state funded joint venture with right of way designed for future expansion to four lanes, a four lane road likely necessary to handle anticipated traffic.
A five acre complex will host four lit softball diamonds around a central concession area with bleachers and a press box. A $100000 grant from Land and Water Conservation Funds funds the project with a 50 percent state match. The Taos Municipal School Board approved a land lease as Phase 2 plans were presented by County Manager Samuel Montoya.
Taos school officials seek an attorney general opinion on who pays legal fees for three board members facing possible removal and on what legal protection staff receive under district policy. District employees worry about coverage and protection as civil rights charges loom.
