Drunk driver pleads no contest in Craft death case

Paul Trujillo Jr. pleaded no contest to homicide by motor vehicle while intoxicated for the September 1989 crash that killed David Craft, with two passengers injured. The plea came minutes before jury selection in Las Vegas district court. The state dropped great bodily injury and leaving the scene charges. A pre-sentencing report will guide sentencing, with a maximum of three years in prison and fines up to $5,000. civil action pending by Rothstein and others against county officials remains ongoing.

Two DWI charged candidates face election in November

County clerk candidate Carmen Medina pleaded no contest to a DWI charge in September after a 1:20 a.m. Aug. 18 arrest on U.S. 64 with a .18 BAC. She was fined 300 for DWI and 100 for no insurance, plus 70 suspended. speeding was dropped and she must attend a DWI class. County assessor candidate Margie Abeyta was charged with DWI in early October on U.S. 64 after a broken taillight stop. she pleaded not guilty and a trial date was not set. Abeyta refused a breath test after failing a field sobriety test. Medina is on the November ballot. Abeyta faces Democrat opponent Randy T. Trujillo.

Resort buyers allege misled in Ski Rio purchase talks

A Taiwan firm and its holding company Zambala claim buyers were misled during negotiations with the FDIC over Ski Rio. Zambala states earnest money stays in escrow and government sale legality may block a different buyer. About 170 jobs were lost as the resort won’t open this winter.

Alliance backs BLM in Rio Grande corridor dispute

Rio Grande Alliance steering committee member Charlee Myers says the group will not seek another agency to manage the Taos County Rio Grande corridor. Biologist Ron Gardiner joined Myers after meeting BLM Director Larry Woodard in Albuquerque. The alliance had urged creating a new agency two months earlier.

Daylight savings time ends this year at 2 a.m. Sunday October 28. Clocks go back one hour at bedtime Saturday October 27, shifting Monday October 29 appointments one hour later than Friday October 26. The change follows the sun’s position as guidance.
