Bogey Creatures of the Southwest Loom in Northern New Mexico
A regional folklore survey links various bogey figures to New Mexico towns and landscapes. La Mano Negra, Las Gorras Blancas, El Diasque, La Grangolina, La Jedionda, and Descarnadas populate stories about night dangers, fires, and warding off mischief. La Sebastiana embodies Death, while warnings about hitchhikers and safeguards around crosses persist.
