Molester Found Hanged in Taos Correctional Cell
Taos resident Steve Beachum, 51, who pleaded guilty in 1995 to six counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor, apparently died by suicide in his Central New Mexico Correctional Facility cell in Los Latinas. A guard found him hanging by a bed sheet and electrical cord. revival efforts failed. Beachum had served 18 years for the offenses, with a one-year habitual-offender enhancement, tied to repeated molestation of a friend’s daughter. He was initially charged with criminal sexual penetration, later reduced.
