Community builds fence to tackle Pilar trash problem

A new site was found behind an old gravel pit on BLM land for a trash solution. Pilar residents contributed 28 dollars, Friends of Taos Valley gave 50, and local merchants donated materials at cost. Taos Rio Arriba Community Action Program workers erected the fence while the State Highway Dept dug trenches.

Daylight Time Ends Sunday Across the Country

The end of Daylight Saving Time arrives at 2 a.m. Sunday prompting people to set clocks back. A proposed project in New Mexico would create jobs in Taos and Blake but will not be built, while the village plan may boost revenue nearby.

Taos Ski Valley plans large lodge and new lift

Road survey details an agreement between Ernie Blake owner of Taos Ski Valley and Buell Pattison to build a 300 bed ski lodge by December 31 1973 with 100 additional beds annually thereafter and a new 5900 foot lift with 1000 passenger capacity by December 1 1972 on Pattison land up the valley from the base towards Williams Lake.

Book Shop Robbery in Taos Targets Belts and Jewelry

Bohdan 29 of Taos County Jail connected to Taos Book Shop burglary on Kit Carson Road. Break in occurred about 12:30 pm Tuesday via back window. Stolen items include 58 bracelets 21 necklaces 8 crosses 28 pins 10 rings and other jewelry. Officers Deputy Joe Martinez city Pat Suazo Pete Duran and state officer Hidalgo Trujillo investigated.

Taos High observes M Day quiet protest at school

About 40 Taos high school students held an orderly M Day demonstration at Taos High School. Protest songs were sung during lunch in the patio. Some wore black armbands to mark the 40,000 American deaths in Vietnam. Classes paused for discussion. others felt the school was not the place for protest.
