Landowners block fence sign against Hacienda development plan
Valdez landowners posted a fence and sign last week to signal their stance to developers of Las Haciendas Condominiums. Southwest Khalsa Corporation planned to use a former Forest Service easement to convey waste from the Hacienda treatment plant to the river beneath a cement bridge. The Forest Service no longer controls the property, and the original owners vow to block any waste in the river.

Taos News wins state press awards in 1980 contest
The Taos News earned first place for its Que pasa section and second for special supplements in the New Mexico Press Association competition. Sports editor Phil Bateman won two first place photography awards. Bateman will see his photos in Shoptalk. He recently left Taos News for a photography career in San Antonio, Texas.
