Richardson unveils Prepare for Success reforms in Taos

Gov Bill Richardson announced 10 education reforms titled Prepare for Success during a Taos visit, proposing a cabinet secretary of higher education, funding from the surplus, expanded mentoring and tutoring, higher graduation incentives, easier transfer of credits among state universities, and accountability standards for colleges. Road repairs uphill battle for many

Taos County roads are in poor condition with only 40 percent paved in District 1 and as low as 9 to 10 percent in Districts 4 and 5. Road Department Supervisor Mike Trujillo cites a $5 million fix cost, a $1 million budget gap, and reliance on gasoline tax and DMV funds while staff and equipment are insufficient.
