Town to take over Kit Carson Park in Taos plan

The state will transfer 25 acres including Kit Carson burial site to Taos for park operation over three years. The town will hire two keepers for Kit Carson and three other parks, install a security fence, improve softball fields and ice rink, and maintain the park for under 73 thousand dollars annually while adding two entry staff at about 30 thousand. An advisory committee will be revived to guide use.

Co op lays off four in office

Four Kit Carson Electric Cooperative office staff were laid off on Tuesday in a cost cutting move. Manager Ernesto Gonzales said the action will save about 122000 annually in salaries and benefits, and the board approved the layoff at a meeting Monday night. The four workers were Steve Vigil Luther Trujillo Honorio Rael and Adele Quintana.

Taos County sees 20 percent rise in summer building permits

Taos Town permits climb from 1.25 million to 1.5 million in June to August, lifting county summer total to 6.7 million. State CI D outside town limits issued over 5.2 million this summer. Notable gains include Enchanted Circle ski area projects and several Des Montes Red River Costilla Sipapu works.
