Taos County weighs regional landfill plan with 200 dumpsters
Taos County aims to create a regional landfill with two transfer stations and 200 three cubic yard dumpsters. The plan, unveiled October 10 by County Commissioner Mike Trujillo and Chairman Pablito Red Trujillo, envisions closing seven rural landfills and privatizing the landfill business with private contractor Sanitation Inc. The project would cost about 300 thousand dollars annually, replacing a prior 103 thousand dollar annual bill, with on site recycling at transfer stations and private employees hired to operate the system. The county and town will seek legislative support in January.
