Local Ham Leads Effort In Taos Amateur Radio Corps

Keith H Mitchell of Taos is named Emergency Coordinator of the Amateur Radio Emergency Corps, leading local operators to provide organized emergency communications. ARRL's George Hart says the group will mobilize fixed and portable stations, drill periods, and liaison with Red Cross, Civil Defense, fire and police.

Mrs. Morris Dies in Fort Worth at 81

Mrs. Morris Brooks Morris 81 of Fort Worth Texas and Des Montes died in Fort Worth on October 3. Funeral services were held October 5 at First Presbyterian Church Fort Worth with burial in the city. She was well known in Taos and spent summers at their Des Montes home. her husband led the Texas Christian University violin department and founded and conducted the Fort Worth Symphony for many years.

New board members were elected at the annual meeting of the El Mercado Cooperative on Saturday. James Duran Sefereno Castillo Leopoldo Martinez and Carmen Velarde were elected for two year terms. Frank Armijo Elidio Gonzalez Daniel Joseph and Jerry Sandoval were elected for one year terms. Joseph is the only member not from the central district which includes Taos. Members will be chosen to fill other districts by the board. The members receive no salary and must pay their own expenses. The cooperative was established to help craftsmen in North Central New Mexico market their crafts locally and outside the state.

Silviano Trujillo Funeral Rites Held for 64 in Ranchitos

Funeral services were held Sept. 28 for Silviano Trujillo who died Sept. 26 at his Ranchitos home. He was 64 with Rev. Robert Beach presiding at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, burial in Dolores Cemetery. Pallbearers: Leroy Mares Fred Mares Mariano Morgan Eddie Wetsel Augustine Harmon Vidal Sisneros. Survived by wife Adela, sons Ernest and Leroy, daughters Fabio Espinoza Dorothy Garcia Prescilla J. Garcia Martha Trujillo and Socorro Trujillo, brother J. M. Trujillo, sisters Amada Harmon Saala Morgus Lovada Montoya and 12 grandchildren. Garcia Funeral Home made arrangements.

Burglar Steals From Taos Church Collection

An estimated 400 to 600 dollars disappeared from First Presbyterian Church in Taos during early June evening hours between 6 and 8. The unlocked church and missing money, kept in the pastor Raymond F. Kersting's desk, followed a Sunday when the treasurer was away. No suspects named. officials urged donors who wrote checks to cancel or replace them.
