Seven paintings missing from Taos schools theft case unfolds

Art historian Sherry Brown reports seven Taos municipal school paintings gone, valued at over half the historic collection. Missing works include Blumenschein oil from 1829, once donated 1961, and a Hogue lithograph and Kloss pieces. Weather Outlook for Taos Weekend Temperatures Drop

High in Taos last week reached 73 degrees on Wednesday October 1 with a low of 27 on Saturday October 4. The National Weather Service forecasts partly cloudy skies with scattered thundershowers through the weekend. Highs will range from the 30s to 60s and lows from the 30s to 40s.

Taos teachers vote on first collective bargaining contract

The agreement outlines monthly access to financial information, a teacher evaluation protocol by principals, notification of tentative assignments changes, a guaranteed 6.5 hour workday with 30 minutes lunch, one nighttime assignment per year, up to four extra hours monthly, one daily prep period for secondary teachers, and eight hours free every 20 days for elementary staff. The Taos Volunteer Fire Department launches its 53rd annual fire drive on Friday October 10 with a goal of $100000. The south team led by Weldon Driskell has $3000 from southside stores and Wal Mart’s bazaar raised $585 with a $500 donation pending from the Wal Mart Foundation. North team captain Bill McHargue expects the Yankees to keep their 10 year winning streak as private homeowners are asked to donate 0.1 percent of home value and big businesses up to $1000.

Winnie Nobel at 100 remembers Wichita and travels

Winnie Nobel, born Oct. 10 1886 in Wichita, plans to celebrate her 100th birthday next week. Readers will recall her years as pianist and Sunday School teacher at St Pauls Methodist Church, her Taos summers with husband Arthur Nobel, and her active life travels with family. Grandchildren John Massie Nobel and Elizabeth Nobel Campbell among others prepare to visit for the birthday.
