First Zough defendant pleads guilty to murder
Richard Padilla, 17, pleaded guilty in Taos County to second degree murder and tampering with evidence in the killing of 18 year old Stephen Zough. He agreed to testify against co defendants Viento Herrera and Frederick Gaitan as their trials proceed. Sentencing tentatively set for Nov 12 with amenability hearing to decide if Padilla is tried as an adult, carrying up to 16.5 years plus parole or juvenile confinement until age 21.

Taos Living Treasure James Ulmer Dies at 73
Taos resident James Ulmer veteran and community volunteer died Monday at Holy Cross Hospital. He helped found Taos Feeds Taos in 1986 with his wife Mari, organizing hundreds of Christmas food baskets yearly with regional partners and the U S Army National Guard. Ulmer earned a Jefferson Award and was named a Taos Living Treasure in 1996 for decades of service.
