Santa Fe Speaker At Kingdom Hall

The Je hovah's Witnesses congregation in Santa Fe will host a Bible lecture titled What is God's View of Images at 3 p.m. on Sunday October 11 with Mr. T. Anderson as guest speaker at the Kingdom Hall Guadalupe Plaza. A Watchtower study on Nations Come to Jehovah's House to Pray will follow. Presiding minister Mr. W. Glenn Horne leads the service. Also a date with the Beales is set for October 22 23 24 at Kit Carson Drive-In Theatre adv.

Ski Shop Plans Completed at Taos Ski Area

Jim Woods of Design Engineering Corp Albuquerque announced plans and specifications for a ski shop at Taos Ski area have been completed and laying of foundations started. The shop built for Ernie Blake will include a clothing center rental shop ticket office and a large sun deck. Expected completion is about two months.

Montoya Street Home Blaze Causes $3,000 Damage

An early morning fire on Montoya Street damaged a Gutierrez home by about $3,000. Taos Volunteer Fire Department responded at 3:45 a.m., found an empty room ablaze, and extinguished it before the rest of the house burned. No injuries reported. the home was not insured.

Bidders sought trade journal for fence work poll results

The Carson National Forest sought bids for constructing three barbed wire fences in the Canjilon Ranger District. About 335 newspapers were listed as independent or undecided, with 12,618,721 readers favoring Johnson and 5,268,691 favoring Goldwater. Bids due by 2 pm Thursday Oct 22 at Taos.

Chicago Train Brings Tourists on El Capitan

Santa Fe Railways mascot Chico led 13 Chicap oans aboard the El Capitan to Raton on Saturday Sept 26. After lunch the group traveled to Taos via Cimarron and Red River Valleys with stops at Eagle Nest and Red River, spent Saturday night in Taos visiting art galleries and churches, then returned to Raton to board the eastbound train Sunday evening.

Veterans' Service Officer Retires After 30 Years

Arthur E. Day, a well known New Mexico veteran, retired September 30 after three decades in government service. He began with the Veterans Administration in Carlsbad on February 25, 1946, moved to Albuquerque later that year, and served in several regional offices before returning to New Mexico in 1961 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fort Bayard. He and his wife have settled in Silver City.

Infant Body Found Beneath Ranchos de Taos House

Workers uncover a wooden box containing an infant corpse during remodeling by Mrs. Mary Cabot in Ranchos de Taos. The grave age is undetermined and it is unclear if the site overlies an old cemetery or a dirt floor burial. The adobe home sits near the village church. reburial plans are being arranged.

Yankees Favored in World Series Odds by Las Vegas Bookmakers

Las Vegas bookmakers list the New York Yankees as a 5 to 9 favorite to win the World Series over the St. Louis Cardinals who are pegged at 90 wins. The odds also project the Yanks not to sweep and the Cardinals to fail in a first four games sweep at 7 to 1 and 20 to 1 respectively.

Brazil Teachers To Visit Taos County Schools

A delegation of Brazilian educators will visit Taos County Schools on Tuesday October 13. They will tour the University of New Mexico campus and meet College of Education staff led by Dean Chester Travelstead. Tito Martinez will greet and accompany the visitors.
