Turkey farming ends grasshopper plague in Embudo Valley
On a 17 acre Rio Grande farm in the Embudo Valley David Rigsby and partners turned a grasshopper nightmare into a thriving turkey operation. The Embudo Valley Organic Turkey Farm now houses 500 turkeys after three winters of battling bugs with a novel predator plan. Rigsby Marv Ellis Johnny McMullen and Clifton Reed built a grower cooperative that used turkeys to control grasshoppers and then expanded into turkey production for market.
