Newborn baby found dead in Taos trash bag
Taos Police investigate after a newborn girl was found wrapped in a trash bag in a Taos residence garage last week. Mother Lori Vigil, 21, was hospitalized with a medical problem on November 11 and later released. Police and medical examiners are determining whether the infant was stillborn or died after birth, with autopsy results pending. Vigil has hired Albuquerque lawyer Anthony Ayala as the investigation continues with possible homicide proceedings.

Taos Head Start programs are back in operation with staff at work including Edward Lovato, the new Taos office manager. Semino Sentenced to Prison in Twin Rape Cases
Ray Semino, 33, was sentenced by Santa Fe Judge James Hall to seven and a half years, with three years suspended, for a Taos County 1996 rape and an Albuquerque 1998 rape. He will serve four and a half years in prison with potential early release if behavior permits. The plea resolved both cases after prior disputes over probation.
