Sergeant First Class Santiago A. Santistevan of Taos retires from the U S Army after more than two decades of duty. He enlisted in August 1948 and served at Fort Ord Guam Fort Lewis Korea Vietnam and Vietnam era hospitals earning the Purple Heart Bronze Star and multiple service medals. He received the Army Commendation Medal at retirement.

Area Ranchers and Forest Staff Honored by Taos SWCD
Three Taos County ranchers and Carson National Forest staff received awards at the Taos Soil and Water Conservation District annual meeting at Kit Carson State Park on Oct 12. The district gave its distinguished service award to the forest staff for contributions to a Red River plan, a ski highway project, and county conservation. Three bankers awards went to George Smith, Polita Montoya, and Andres A. Martinez for achievements in water conservation, land management, and grazing improvements.
