Florida recount looms after tug of war for presidency

In a razor thin contest Gore and Bush battled for the presidency with Florida as the pivotal state. Early projections swung from Gore to Bush and back as recounts loom and ballots are scrutinized. Bush led by a small margin nationwide while New Mexico also showed a tight result. Gore carried Taos County by a wide margin.

Romero captures County Commission seat in landslide win

Democrat Gabriel J. Romero won the District Three seat with about 92 percent of the vote, defeating write-in independent Eli Herrera. Romero carried all 20 precincts, tallying 2,424 to 225, and said he was stunned by the result as he prepares to be sworn in January 2001 with goals to address land use, water preservation, and growth.
