Taos County favored Democrats, supported bond issues for state projects, while six constitutional amendments mostly rejected. Republican Pete Domenici retained Senate seat with 73 percent. Snow geese spotted near Costilla during northward migration
A flock of snow geese was seen flying north near Costilla on Saturday afternoon November 3. The Bosque del Apache reserve near Socorro is highlighted as a prime spot for photography with an estimated 40,000 to 50,000 snow geese wintering there this year.

Taos County opens dumpsters at former landfills
Taos County has replaced holes in the ground with about 165 dumpsters at several sites after closing all landfills. Sanco, the county trash contractor, placed dumpsters including at Pilar Tres Piedras Ojo Caliente and Sipapu with more locations under consideration. Two large roll off containers were added at Cerro and Chamisal.

Taos district voters may be asked to approve about 21 million dollars in extra property taxes through 2007 to fund new construction. The board considers bonds of 9 or 12 million with final decision set for November 13. If approved, the owner of a 90000 dollar home would pay about 145.50 annually for 16 years.
