The Red River Ski Club opened the season with a meeting Oct. 25 and will issue season lift tickets only at ski club meetings by early December. Ron Pockrandt is named president as members note ongoing community activity and local travels including a Tulsa Boys' Home director visit.
George A. Ortiz area VI I director of the Migrant Education program from Taos attends a planning session in Washington D C following an automobile accident October 23. The Questa water project progresses with storage tank taking shape, lines filled, chlorinated and flushed as Ortiz represents the region at a national conference led by the Core Planning Committee.
Spud evolved into a Taos weekly section and later a Taos News column. Johnson wrote The Santa Fe Gadfly for The New Mexican and edited a Taos weekly in the 1930s. His work included store activities in Taos and Santa Fe, typing Mabel Dodge Lujan manuscripts, and amassing papers later donated to Yale Library in 1965.

Tom Thompson, a Republican candidate connected to Richard M. Nixon and Manuel Lujan Jr., died Nov. 4 at Veterans Hospital in Houston after a cancer battle. The article notes the 6,249 presidential votes cast in the county, 72.6 percent turnout, and Thompson's survivors including a brother, two daughters, and several grandchildren.
