Taos Declares Fire Hazard Emergency Bans Fireworks

Taos Town Council declares a fire hazard emergency during drought conditions and bans fireworks until further notice. The measure also bans open burning while allowing gas grills. Public July 4 display remains permitted alongside town and county sponsors. State officials ban sales through June 18 to assess permanent restrictions.

Caldwell seeks Supreme Court seat in New Mexico

Eighth Judicial District judge Joseph Caldwell is among five applicants for a vacancy on the New Mexico Supreme Court. Caldwell, who has served since 1979, would join Petra Jimenez Maes Robin Dozier Otten Dan McKinnon and James Waylon Counts in the race. Frost retires May 31 to seek cancer treatment, leaving the seat to be filled by the governor. The Appellate Judicial Nominating Commission meets June 4 to evaluate candidates. The appointee must run in the next general election.

Blinking light to be extinguished in Taos area project

By May 13 Clarke Dunnam of Northern Mountain Constructors in El Prado described a $2.276 million U S 64 State Road 522 State Road 150 intersection project to relocate the infamous blinking light 300 feet north install a stop light and turning lanes in four directions plus landscaping curb and gutter the realignment of Blueberry Hill Road and a new road to Millicent Rogers Museum with traffic directing to the museum road the plan aims to curb the blinking reference point locals and visitors rely on against a backdrop of possible overpass rumors
