Peralta pleads guilty in Questa school embezzlement case
Marcia Peralta, former Questa schools business manager, pleaded guilty to one count each of embezzlement forgery and tampering with evidence. She faces up to 253 years in prison and a 530000 dollar fine. State Auditor findings show 78000 unaccounted for between 1985 and 1988. Most embezzlement charges were under 2000 dollars. State recommends five years probation and repayment of 21681 to the district and insurers. Sentencing date not yet set.

Police crack down on bar drug dealing targets Hadley arrest
Police halted a suspected bar drug trade outside Sagebrush Inn arresting 43 year old Doug Monkey Hadley on charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of marijuana. He posted ten percent of a twenty thousand dollar bond after arraignment. Police say multiple informants tipped Crimestoppers and the public about Hadley. A raid found cocaine and marijuana. a rifle was seized from his Cruz Alta home and his Chevrolet Blazer impounded. Sagebrush owner Ken Blair supports crackdowns and fired employees implicated in drug use.

Taos voters decide 2 mil levy continuation Tuesday
Taos Municipal School District voters go to the polls Tuesday June 3 to decide whether to extend a 2 mill tax levy for building maintenance and equipment. The levy has funded schools since 1975 and faced defeat in February. turnout was 2482. Polling places eight sites open 7 am to 7 pm with added machines at Taos and Ranchos de Taos.

Veterans memorial ceremony honors fallen soldiers in Angel Fire
Veterans came from Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and New Mexico to Angel Fire for Memorial Day ceremonies at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Speakers included former VA administrator Harry Walters and Dr. Victor Westphal, who built the memorial. The event honored the dead, missing in action and their families as flags waved and taps echoed over the Moreno Valley. More than 250 attended the remembrance, which followed the memorial's national designation earlier this month.
