The Animal Shelter announces a week of plentiful cats and kittens with two male dogs, both likely boxers, one about one or two years old and the other a young pup not expected to grow large.
The regular meeting of the Sheriff's Posse will be held at the police station at 7 30 p m on May 2 with Captain Frank Templeton presiding.
Mrs Simonita S Romero, 67, died May 21 at her Llano Quemado home. A Mass at St Francis de Assisi in Ranchos de Taos was led by Rev Patrick Lopez on May 23. Burial followed at Llano Quemado Cemetery with pallbearers Eloy Valerio Don Romero Procopio Garcia Elizardo Valerio Teodoro Valerio Eduardo Tafoya. Rosary Auguries May 21 and 22 at Garcia Funeral Home. Survivors include husband Alfredo and children Juan T Elizardo Santa Fe Feliberto Valdez Manuelita Llano Quemado Leroy San Diego California Candida Claw dina Fresquez Santa Fe half siblings and stepmother noted.
Eliseo Borrego de Bad died at his Vadito home May 21. A requiem Mass was said by Rev. Robert Garcia at Vadito Catholic Church on May 23, followed by burial at Placita Cemetery. Fidel Vasquez gave the eulogy. Pallbearers were Ted Valdez Joe Fernandez Joe Trujillo Rudy Maes Louis Fernandez and Charles Borrego. Survivors include his widow seven sons Ernesto Pueblo Colo Louis San Francisco Calif Alfonso Grants Frank Horatia Eliseo Jr Vadito and Paul in Oregon. one daughter Mrs Levi Gurule Ric Lucio and sister Rafelita Santa Fe. He served four years as Taos County treasurer and four years as Taos County Democratic chairman.
The New Mexico Postmasters Association held its annual convention in Ruidoso with Agnes Avila and others in attendance. Horace Humbert of Carlsbad was elected president and Clarence Healty of Raton became vice president of Class 1. Jack Brandenburg led a 60-member goodwill flight to several West Coast cities. Elizabeth Budlong of Taos was elected secretary of the New Mexico Heart Association. A Lights on for Safety campaign urged motorists to use headlights over Memorial Day weekend.
Mr and Mrs Steve Laurence of Denver visit her parents Mr and Mrs Ernest Martinez in Denver.
A special meeting of First Presbyterian Church follows the 11 oclock service to approve floor plans for a new Christian education building and authorize construction. The plans add about 4100 square feet including a fellowship hall kitchen nursery room kindergarten infant care lounge with estimated cost around 41000. Construction could begin this summer.
Penny Annett Garcia, 22 months, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bertie Garcia of Talpa, drowned in an irrigation ditch near Talpa. Funeral held at Talpa Chapel with Rev. Patrick Lopez. burial in Talpa cemetery. Inquest attributed death to accidental drowning. Survived by parents, a brother Dennis, sisters Bernadine and Valerie, and grandparents. Garcia Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Ernie's Repair Shop reported to city police that 40 to 14 second hand auto radiators were stolen on May 21 or 22.
Leroy Q. Trujillo of Taos faced a suit for careless driving filed by City Police Sgt. Peter Duran after his vehicle hit a parked car owned by Crawford E. Knapp Jr. of Questa. The collision happened at 8 05 p m on May 14 along Kit Carson Street.
The Taos Elementary School all purpose room hosted Pack 08 in May 1999 with opening by David Culp. Skits by Dens 3 4 and 7 themed The First Americans. Den 7 won attendance banner. Bobcat Induction went to Jeff Cottam Gilbert Harvey Carlos Quintana. Wolf Badges to Jimmy Belavidez Dennis Pleasas. Arrow points to Michael Mondragon David Culp Tommy Miller Jeff Boyer. Bear Badges to Lawrence Wade Dean Doutchinoff Mike Montoya Tom Bumstead. Denners Bars to Wolf Cubs Jeff Boyer David Culp Stephen Bassett and Bear Cub Michael Bassett. Assistant Denners Bars to Jeff Cottam Lawrence Wade Otto Needing announced trips and campouts.
Thirty one members of the Hollywood Hillbillies boxing club present a live stage show at the Taos Boxing Club in the Catholic School auditorium to benefit Our Lady of Guadalupe parish. Elfido Gonzales honored guest. tickets one dollar for those 13 and older. Fifty percent of advance ticket proceeds go to the parish. no advance sales after sunset.
The Dropout will be shown at Taos High School on May 28 at 7 p.m. Presented by Tom Atencio, a mental health consultant for the New Mexico Department of Health, the event is sponsored by the Taos Council for Youth and open to the public.
