Canon approves zoning changes amid environmental safeguards

Canon authorities unanimously pass zoning measures limiting new housing to two acres per parcel and prohibiting multi unit dwellings while allowing trailers with two year code compliance. Existing SR 64 commercial uses are grandfathered with future rezoning possible. two businessmen seek commercial changes at Witt Road and SR 64, and a corner near the Raton bypass. Taos and Santa Fe veterans events noted.

Taos motorcycle crash leaves rider with severed leg

In Taos on May 22 a Taos woman Phyllis Pepper 29 riding with Delbert Trujillo 27 was hit head on by a car driven by Raymond Martinez 25 of Talpa crossing the center line. Pepper suffered a traumatic amputation and was hospitalized in stable condition at Holy Cross Hospital. Martinez cited for DWI and reckless driving. Trujillo cited for suspended license.

Pool Closure Extended Amid Roof Repairs and Paint Work

Town manager Carlos Miranda says the municipal pool remains closed longer than planned to accommodate a roof repair and interior painting. A change order approved last week will allow painting inside the pool building and select fixtures with special chlorine resistant paint, possibly starting as early as June 8 and finishing in about two weeks, with a tentative reopening around June 20.

S&L Seeks $25,000 Plus From Cottam Horsed Collateral

Taos S&L filed a second suit against Jeffrey Cottam seeking $25,000 plus 18 percent interest and 10 percent attorney fees backed by three certified Thoroughbred horses as collateral. The case also flags possible public auction of nine acres in a planned Las Arbolera condo project opposed by locals with protests and meetings in 1982.

Three landowners and related parties seek to nullify the new Lisno Quemado Special Zoning District and obtain a temporary restraining order preventing zoning actions within the 17 000 acre Serna grant.
