Obituary Jose Martinez 77 Funeral at Our Lady of Sorrows
Jose D. C. Martinez of Arroyo Hondo died in Pueblo, Colorado on May 23 at age 77. Survivors include a daughter Manuel Valdez of Avondale, two brothers Nick Martinez of Arroyo Hondo and Victor Ocania of San Luis, a sister Porfirio Martinez, and two grandchildren. Burial was at Arroyo Hondo Cemetery with Father Joseph C. Doyle officiating. Garcia's Funeral Home handled arrangements. Eulogy by Don Romero. Pallbearers listed as Carlos Trujillo Arturo Facheco Bert LaCome Manuel Padilla Ben Garcia and Quecimo Avila.

Benito Chacon of Arroyo Hondo died May 18 at age 70. A sheep and cattle raiser, he served as county commissioner from 1924 to 1927 and probate judge from 1927 to 1980. Funeral services were held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with burial in Upper Arroyo Hondo Cemetery.

Miss Maria P Weniger, longtime Taos artist and sculptor, died May 19 at Llano Quemado at age 79. She studied in Munich and contributed altar carvings to Holy Cross Hospital. Services were in Albuquerque cremation followed. Also noted Kenneth P Morris Jr of Taos to graduate May 20 from New Mexico Military Institute after three years as cadet at Roswell campus.

Fellowship Service At Spanish Baptist Church May 27
A special Fellowship Service will be held at the Spanish Baptist Church on May 27. The invocation will be by Ten. A.M. Fredwell of Las Vegas, Wel sone by Mrs. Frank Olonia of faos and Answer by the Rev. Amos Mascarenas of Raton. The local pastor will lead congregational hymns and the chorus led by Rev. Minor of Wagon Mound. The young peoples choir under Rev. Eugene Sloan of El Rito. "Time and Place" presented by Rev. Gilbert Oakly of Trinidad and Rev. Mike Lopez of Santa Fe will speak on stewardship. The sermon by Rev. Ernest Day of Clayton and Benediction by Rev. Lanham of Espanola. All are welcome.

Italian born painter Albert Alcalay of Boston toured Taos galleries this week and showed strong interest in Taos art. He holds a Guggenheim Fellowship and runs an art school in Gloucester. Alcalay has teaching duties at Harvard starting next fall and is represented by the Museum of Modern Art and other American museums.
