Questa High School will start its first football team next fall with Dewey Bohling as athletic director and coach. An eight game schedule includes games against EB, Las Vegas Robertson B, Dulce, Cuna, West Las Vegas B, Raton B, McCurdy Mission, and Laguna Acoma with a possible Taos County opponent added. Bohling will also coach the new track program and teach in Albuquerque schools before joining Questa.

A 20 year old Santa Fe man, Henry Viel Jr., bound over to district court on a 2500 bond for un lawful entry and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A preliminary hearing at which an innocent plea was entered heard testimony from James R. Williams, Roy Williams, Pat Ortiz, and Jose Archuleta regarding the La Fonda Liquor Store break in in April. A 17 year old Canon Kay arrested with Vigil testified, Vigil did not testify.

Ranger Named For Penasco
Cecil Simms, a forest ranger, is transferred to the Carson National Forest Penasco Ranger District to fill an opening. He replaces John Fleming, who moved to the Kaibab Forest. Simms, a 1960 Colorado State University graduate, previously served as assistant district ranger in the Wilcox District of the Coronado National Forest. He and his wife Dixie have two children.

A juvenile, age not stated, is held in connection with break ins at the residence of Charles D. Brooks in La Loma. Chief Arthur Leach reports the boy was captured early this week and is also being questioned about several break ins at Eric Gibberd’s La Loma home. Some items from the Brooks residence have been returned, and police note the Brooks home has a history of break ins.

Holiday Race At La Mesa Memorial Day Weekend
RATON The Denver Post reports La Mesa Park will feature an allowance race slate over Memorial Day weekend with the Denver allowance as the 11th race on Tuesday. The three year olds and up will vie for six percent plus $500, with a full 12 race card set for Saturday and Sunday and a dark Monday before the holiday program. Last week Lou Kate won the Inaugural Handicap carrying 123 pounds, ridden by Jerry Burgess, earning $1,044 and returning $7.20 4.40 and 3.20. Bally Pom longshot won the 11th race on opening day, paying $80.40 22.40 and 10.40.
