The Taos Jaycees sponsor a teen age dance for junior and senior high students in Taos this Saturday at 8 p.m. at Taos High School gym. Central Catholic and Taos students are invited. Music by Trends of Fashion. Admission 1.00 stag 1.50 drag. Ends at midnight.
Seaman Sahd U S N Pete B Sahd son of Latouf P Sahd Taos took part in the Blue Coral naval training exercise off the southern California coast as crew of the store ship USS Procyon Second major fleet exercise this year by the U S First Fleet It refined surface to surface and surface to air warfare detection and destruction of subsurface craft Some 21 air units and 25 ships participated in the week long exercise.
Incumbents on the Kit Carson Electric Cooperative board were reelected. Marcelino Martinez and Malaquias Rael of Questa won two year terms in district two with 336 total votes. Martinez received 247 votes, Rael 24, Sanchez 77, Gonzales 74.
Leonard Coyne returns to the University Centre after convalescing from a motor accident in August at Lake Tahoe California. Mrs Ruth G Fish is his mother-in-law. Jes comes back from Albuquerque following a visit by New Mexico.
The Housing Authority approves using the Water Department vehicle for Le Roy Romero to attend a water and sewer operations essay at Los Alamos and reports on a recent New Mexico State University session. It also sets a policy that utility employees receive overtime only for manager‑determined emergencies and considers curb and gutter work by the State Highway Department on North Pueblo Road.
The report states SITES courthouse issues show some parcels not for sale and the letter of recommendation frees the Courthouse Site Committee from further duties. Future site decisions will be made by the County Commissioners who are to name an architect after choosing a site. They may accept committee sites or reject all and pick a better option.
Taos High School thinclads closed a successful season at the Albuquerque state meet. Bernard Lujan won laurels with a third in the two mile and set a THS record. Lujan, Lutrat, Varos and district standouts contributed to eight school marks and eight trophies, while the 440 relay team posted a final school record of 44.9. Coach Rudy Pacheco credited Lee Fleming for field events and noted Pacheco focused on running events.
Picuris Pueblo Indians vote unanimously to contribute 20 percent of the construction cost for a new multi purpose community center and museum. The resolution, signed by acting governor Pat Martinez, seeks funding from the New Mexico Office of Economic Opportunity and notes plans for a Head Start program and adult training to aid local economic development.
