Taos imposes burn ban amid dry conditions and fires
Mayor Fred Peralta issued a total burn ban for Taos and the three mile extraterritorial buffer. All burn permits are suspended, with fines up to 500 dollars and possible 90 day jail terms. Fire costs will be charged to violators. Nearby Questa and Santa Fe also ban burning as Arroyo Hondo's April 25 blaze scorched over 20 acres and threatened 11 homes.
