Vigil surrenders in Taos murder case

Daniel Vigil, charged with open murder, criminal sexual penetration, and evidence tampering in the Karen Braunlich case, surrendered April 25 and remains in Taos County Detention Center without bond. Magistrate Betty Gonzales set no-bond and arraignment details, with a preliminary hearing to be scheduled.

Selph Campaign Claims Vandalism of Signs in District Attorney Race

Frank Selph, Democrat for district attorney, says in a press release dated April 24 that his campaign signs on private property near Raton and Folsom were maliciously vandalized. The release accuses opponents Pacheco and Paternoster camps of taking responsibility for the act while denying involvement.

Local men to stand trial for Dome Fire start near Bandelier

Gregory Steele 28 of Questa and Farid Touchi 23 of Germany face trial in Albuquerque on three misdemeanor counts for leaving a campfire unattended and unextinguished, giving false information, and damaging US property. The Dome Fire burned 15,000 acres on the Santa Fe National Forest at a cost over 2 million. A preliminary hearing Tuesday determined probable cause with investigator Louis Medina testifying. If convicted they face up to six months in jail and 25,000 dollars fines, plus potential costs of fighting the blaze.

Frost Hits Taos County Fruit Crop Hard in 18 Degree Record
