Summer lift OK'd again at Taos Ski Valley
Taos Ski Valley officials can run Lift No 1 through the summer after appeals of Carson National Forest supervisor Leo Lucero's Oct 4 decision were denied. Forest Service deputy regional forester Forrest Carpenter said Lucero followed proper procedures and the ruling stands. Chief Jack Ward Thomas has 15 days to review.

Logging fight erupts as La Manga project approved near El Rito
On March 28 Carson National Forest approved the La Manga timber plan setting aside harvests for small operators in the Vallecitos unit near El Rito. La Compania Ocho of Vallecitos filed suit in Albuquerque US District Court seeking timber sales to their firm and to Madera Wood Products. TSV plans a summer lift starting May 26 through Sept 5, Thursdays through Mondays, 10 am to 4 pm, arguing the Forest Service’ s analysis supports the decision.

Taos school board targets bond to improve facilities

Ex-lover indicted in Hafner death in Taos
Antonio J. Archuleta, 51, a Taos woodworker and Hafner's former lover, was indicted by a Taos grand jury on second degree murder in Hafner's July 13 1992 killing. Bond set at 15000, arraignment arranged, trial date August 15. Evidence includes circumstantial links from Archuleta workshop where Hafner was killed. Police say blood found in the workshop confirms the crime. Hafner's body found in a walk in closet at her Los Panchos Street home by Nestor Martinez.
