James Branch, Questa High School English teacher and head boys basketball coach, was informed by new superintendent Rudy Castellano on March 23 that he would not be recommended for re hire as basketball coach or athletic director next year. He will remain an English teacher.
BunaTs James Branch, former Questa High coach, voiced concerns over due process after his replacement at the school. He highlighted his 25-4 state run last year and the Wildcats 7-17 record this season, calling for fairness while his former team claimed the state championship.
Taos officials and about 500 attendees gathered Saturday March 25 for Holy Cross Hospital’s official opening ceremony. Rita Campbell CEO stated the facility commits to high quality care and preventive services to welcome Taos into the 21st century.

In Taos the paving of Peralta Lane by town crews last fall has sparked dispute among neighbors. The Rael family held private road rights yet access by others emerged as property divisions shifted. Residents petitioned annexation and access was granted to most, while Rael holdings remained contentious as land sales continued.
The village of Questa celebrated the opening of the Questa Municipal Court on Saturday March 25 in the former police department offices. Judge Mary Ann Romero now presides in a refurbished space with an adjacent office for alternate judge Rene Lacomb. Mayors, council members, school officials, and community members attended the dedication with prayers from Deborah Bryant.
Taos firefighters fought a smoky brush blaze on upper Ranchitos Road for over five hours on Monday March 27. The debris filled field included roofing material boards and tires with piles ten feet high. crews used a backhoe to reach the ground. No structures were harmed. Fire marshal Jim Fambro urged clearing fields of trash and avoiding burns in windy conditions.
