Walter area naming urge honors New Mexico climber

Government urged to name a Wheeler Peak wildlife area for Walter with support from Ray Bell and others. Walter, a famed New Mexico climber, died after a lengthy illness and left a legacy of high country exploration and map corrections that elevated Wheeler Peak as the state's highest.

Two Taos County hangings mark 100 years of crime

Taos County Historical Society heard Esculpulo Martinez recount two death sentences in Taos during the last century, one against Jose Maria Martinez by Judge Kirby Benedict and another against John Conaly. Pets up for adoption at Taos Shelter

Three puppies, an adult spayed female Collie, a spayed female cat, and an altered male cat are available. A grown red Cocker with a red collar has been at the shelter for weeks and awaits call from the owner or other interested parties at phone numbers 3002 or 2131.

Stamps Drive Seeks Gold Bond Funds For Bus Project

Members of St Josephs Central Catholic Home and Sein Association met March 22 to pursue a 9 passenger school bus nicknamed a golden chariot. They will fund via Gold Bond stamps needing 3 000 stamp books. 129 have been collected pledge. Five committees were formed to solicit donations and plan posters in stores. Sanford Makes Honor Roll at NMSU

John Sanford of Taos is among 59 students named to the dean of agriculture and home economies honor roll for the fall semester at New Mexico State University. eligibility requires 12 or more hours and a 3.2 GPA. Sanford is a junior majoring in agriculture.
