Taos Fechin plan eyed despite resident opposition

Taos Lodging Associates with Eva Fechin Branham and Ni caela Brabham Donner seek a 22 000 square foot pueblo style inn on 4 12 acres behind the Fechin House across from Garcia Plaza north of Kit Carson Park. The project would include a 40 seat restaurant a curio shop and three or four est homes after a zone change. Residents urged denial citing impact on nearby residential areas while officials noted strong support from developers and two others and 100 names on petitions.

Taos crossing guards keep kids safe at busy intersections

Taos Police Chief Jose Lucero Retires After 28 Years

Taos police chief Jose Lucero, a 19 year veteran, retires effective March 31 after 28 years in law enforcement. Mayor Eloy A Jeantete said he accepted the retirement with regret as the department undergoes reform prompted by an audit. Lucero began elements of the reorganization plan before announcing his retirement on March 29. A statewide chief search will begin immediately.

Fernandez Relicensed After Short DMV Revocation

County commissioner David Fernandez briefly lost and regained his driving privileges earlier this month. Court records show the Motor Vehicle Division notified him of revocation effective March 4 after an administrative hearing on February 28. District Judge Joseph Caldwell ordered temporary restoration pending appeal, directing the division to issue a temporary license while the DWI case proceeds.
