Seven Taos area Scout units join America’s Heritage exposition to showcase skills March 27 2 to 4 pm at Espanola High School gymnasium. Taos and Taos Espanola districts exhibit 33 booths with Pinewood Derby, adobe masonry leatherwork knot tying and dances. Local leaders urge community attendance.

Quartet Nabbed For Stealing Gas At School Yard
State Police arrested two adults and two juveniles after siphoning gas from a parked car in the Penasco school yard during a basketball tournament. The car belonged to Mr. and Mrs. Max Martinez of Vatido. A hearing is set for 10 am Saturday in Justice C F Bover's court for Joseph Santiago Zamora and Nelson Terry Romero, 18. Two 17 year olds, Rosendo Zamora and George Lujan, were referred to a Probation Officer.

Taos Visit By Farmers Home Advisor Group
Mrs Ella Mae Berdahl Washington D C home adviser for the Farmers Home Administration in the Department of Agriculture visited Taos Tuesday. She is in New Mexico for in service training of three home supervisors and promotes programs aiding homemakers whose husbands have FHA loans. She noted 44 home supervisors in 22 states working with families on children housing and resource management while encouraging self sufficiency through home canned foods and farming. Accompanying staff included Adriana Chavez Lazara Holguin Frances Costa Mary Olguin and Lela White with Taos escort Jake Villa Real.

The Taos Rotary Club elected three members to the board of directors on Wednesday and then chose new officers. Rusty Richardson was named president, Max Baca vice president, Skeezix Rodriguez secretary, Hugh Littrell treasurer, and Gil Duran sergeant at arms, with Rev. Sam Horney remaining on the board as immediate past president. Three students from Mrs W Ann Weaver’s high school English class earned Rotary composition prizes: Imelda Maes first prize, Janet Phillips second, Ine White third, from over 65 submissions.

Fire department awards rescue truck contract
At a Friday meeting of the Tans Volunteer Fire Department truck committee, Thunder Bird Sales Corp of Albuquerque and Phoenix, Arizona won a contract for a new emergency and rescue unit costing 4788 dollars. The 1956 Chevrolet panel will be purchased from Miller Chevrolet of Taos and shipped to Phoenix for equipment mounting. The unit will include a resuscitator first aid gear smoke masks and fire fighting and rescue tools for use alongside pumper trucks on fires and large emergency calls.

Funeral services for McKinley John Flansburg age 70 were held March 24 at Han lon's Evergreen Chapel with Rev. Sam Horney officiating. He died March 22 at the Veterans Hospital in Albuquerque. Burial followed at National Cemetery Santa Fe. Pallbearers included Joe Sanchez Adolph Espinosa Luciana Gonzales Leonides Baca Meliton Trujillo and Floyd Austin.
