Worrell property fired on in Taos after arson

Taos taos news reports that a luxury Lower Ranchitos Road building site owned by Tom Worrell was attacked Monday with bullets narrowly missing a High Desert Protective Services guard who had been stationed after an earlier arson fire at the 14,000 square foot mansion. Authorities say multiple suspects used a full size pickup. a $50,000 reward plus $1,000 from Crime Stoppers is offered for information.

Taos skaters push $150000 for new park near youth center

Taos volunteers led by Tony Sutherland seek about 150000 dollars to build a skate park near the Taos Youth and Family Center. Groundbreaking hoped for June with opening by summer end as town restricts skating on public property and fines violators.

Taos County Jail Foiled Escape By Prisoner Armed With Fire Extinguisher

Taos police rushed to Taos County Adult Detention Center shortly after 1 am on Tuesday March 16 to stop Pete Sisco 27 from escaping. Sisco who had broken a jail window used a fire extinguisher to strike a guard and sprayed officers who confronted him. He was arrested on probation violation and charged with three counts of battery aggravated battery criminal damage to property attempting to escape and possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner. He remains in custody with no bond and has a prior record including aggravated assault and resisting protection orders. The detention officer injured required stitches but plans to continue working. The case will be prosecuted by the Eighth Judicial District Attorney.

Governor Gary Johnson vetoed a 3.3 billion state budget, signaling a rough endgame for the 1999 session. He urged lawmakers to return to House Bill 2 as a starting point for talks, warned of a possible special session, and blasted the budget as overspent and “unrepairable.”
