Wildcats Capture AA State Crown in Upset Victory

In a dramatic run from Taos County, the Questa Wildcats upset defending Class AA champ Hot Springs Rattlers 75-67 at Tingley Coliseum and The Pit to claim the school’s first state trophy. Gas line break blamed for Innsbrook Lodge explosion

An investigation ties a cracked propane line outside Innsbrook Lodge at Taos Ski Valley to a March 5 explosion that destroyed the 14 room structure. Propane likely leaked and moved under the floor to the water heater ignition point, with no injuries reported. Damage estimated at $700,000. the building was fully insured.

Taos County zoning plan stalls at first test

Taos County commission postponed any decision on the temporary zoning ordinance after a public hearing. Equity manager Samuel Montoya praised the document while Sofia Ortega abstained as residents packed the chambers. Montoya urged revisiting several issues to craft a more complete plan.

Union confronts hospital board at NLRB hearing

Union members and Holy Cross Hospital faced an NLRB administrative law judge on March 15 over alleged unfair labor practices. The union claims a new management post shift manager was created to replace the house supervisor and that work was shifted outside the union. A no solicitation policy was also alleged. The hearing continued March 16 with Judge Schmidt stating a decision would take 60 to 90 days and could require bargaining if a refusal to bargain is found.

Taos County funds back youth centers in Taos and Questa

Taos County manager Samuel Montoya announced more than 1 million dollars in state funds after this year’s session to build youth centers in Taos and Questa. The largest line item, 712000 dollars, would support a National Guard Armory match. The plan calls for the current armory to be transferred to the county for a youth center in exchange, with the Guard building a new facility and leaving room for future youth activities and an outdoor park complex pending congressional appropriation.
