House honors family of Representative Romero in Taos

In Santa Fe the New Mexico House recognized the Romero family of Des Montes for Donaciano Romero Sr who served in the Sixth Legislature. Rep. Roberto Gonzales announced a plan to donate a reproduced group photo to the House collection featuring Romero and other Taos County lawmakers from 1923 to 1925.

Public comment period extended on Carson NF motorized plan

The deadline to comment on a proposed Carson National Forest motorized travel plan was moved to March 20 after Amigos Bravos pressed for more time. The plan, required by a Forest Service directive, would limit cross country travel and reroute traffic to 2,100 miles of routes, with 100 to 300 foot corridors along roads for wood gathering and game retrieval.

Forest Service outlines travel plan limits and burns planned in Taos area

The Forest Service says only about 17 percent of acres can be managed for motorized use, leaving most areas unregulated. Public comments are invited to Carson National Forest, Taos NM, with final open house set for March 12 at Penasco Community Center 6 8 pm. Crews will ignite piles around Taos County ahead of wildfire season while snow reduces fire risk. Burns include Red Mesa 400 acres starting March 3, and future burns at Questa Lama Cafien Plaza Ensenada Comanche Bixler areas. For details call 575 758 6345.
