Velarde Man Killed in Highway 73 Ore Truck Crash

Velarde resident Dan Henry Abel, 62, died in a Tuesday morning wreck on Highway 73 while driving toward Dixon with a cargo of copper ore. State Police say brakes failed on Dixon hill, sending the truck off the road and into rocks. Officer Jerry Griz led the investigation, aided by fellow troopers Simon Douchinoff and Ted Brennan from Taos.

Miss Fresquez Dies at 73 in Penasco

Miss Fresquez 73 of Penasco died March 3. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Rolando Sanchez at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, Penasco, March 5, with burial at Llano Presbyterian cemetery. Pallbearers named and eulogist Elisen Gonzales. Prayer service held March 4 at church. Garcia's Funeral Home handled arrangements. Survivors include three nieces Mrs. Ovaldo Martinez, Mrs. Beatrice Fresquez and Mrs. Ruben Gonzales.
