Sprays Spark Taos Protest Against FAA Plan
Residents in Carson estates west of Taos protested spraying carbaryl on spruce budworm against perceived health risks. Rob Hughs filed an FAA complaint about low flying planes during a nine day operation covering 36,700 acres of Carson National Forest and 2000 private acres in Morera Valley. Federal monitors tracked effects on wildlife as officials said Bt spraying covered 1,081 acres of watercourses and state funding totaled about a third of a million dollars with federal costs lower than expected.
