Friends Of Taos Valley Organizes First Meeting

Friends of Taos Valley formed to preserve and improve the Taos Valley. The group will hold its first meeting at the Harwood Foundation on June 30 at 8 p m. An executive committee was named with Genevieve Janssen as chairman and members including Mrs Joe Sanchez Ben Hazard Tony Reyna Louis Collam Mrs Richard Dicus and Mrs Q E Berninghaus.

Fishermen Miss Big Catch In Sierra Contest

In the Sierra area last week no entries won the big fish prize though many anglers were successful. Soloman Struck and Charles Morena own Garcia-Mitchell reels and True Temper gear, advertised at 19.95 and 143 percent off, with a note that stock is dwindling. Eagle Nestlake had a poor opening due to rough weather and high water. A Taos civic group held its first meeting to discuss bylaws and civic programs, with dues set at 5 for families.

Taos Council Endorses Community Action Agency

Taos Town Council approved cooperation with the Community Action Program under the Economic Opportunity Act. In a special meeting led by Mayor Jesse Vigil, the Taos County Community Action Program Agency, Inc. was proclaimed the Community Action Agency for the Town of Taos. Present were Council members Mrs. Floyd W. Beutler John W. Himes and Sam Martinez. The meeting also adopted a proclamation urging residents to aid flood victims in Colfax County.

Escapes (Continued) Cimarron area road and bridge damage

Crews worked to repair Cimarron area roads and replace bridges washed out by a wall of water from Cimarron and Vermejo drainages. Cimarron faced boil water orders and limited river water. a fish truck delivered supply as wires and poles washed away. Governor Campbell ordered state vehicles with radios to aid.

Taos County Sheriff's Posse to elect officers at meeting

New officers will be elected by members of the Taos County Sheriff's Posse during a regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Friday in police headquarters Taos Plaza. Frank Templeton has held the post for three years as posse cap. Other first lieutenants are Roger Rogers Warren Newvill Ventura Marbal and Pete Sena is second lieutenant.

Bernal Elected To New Mexico VFW Budget Committee

Jacob M. Bernal of Taos was elected to the budget and finance committee of the New Mexico Department Veterans of World War I to serve for the coming year. The convention at Portales on June 11 selected Bernal, with R. G. Parkinson of Portales chosen as commander.
