Summer lift to run at Taos Valley this weekend

Taos Ski Valley officials plan to operate chair lift No. 1 for summer rides as early as Friday or Saturday despite a May 27 federal lawsuit by the Committee to Save the Rio Hondo aimed at halting the lift. Families sue state cops over deaths in domestic case

The Martinez and Casados families sue New Mexico State Police for alleged inaction after a 1992 domestic dispute ended in both men dying by arson. Casados had doused his father in law and himself, amid threats after a 1991 domestic violence order. The suit, filed May 27 in Eighth Judicial District Court, cites police awareness of the danger and a lack of dispatcher follow up.

Flag Day ceremony honors fallen veteran at Taos Courthouse

Taos Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9259 members gathered at the Taos County Courthouse for a Flag Day ceremony Tuesday June 14 honoring Maciovio Gonzales. The event included the United States flag donation by Mazy Martinez after a flag was stolen. A Taos National Guard scene featured a 21 gun salute.
