County hopefuls must leave jobs
Seven county employees will have to leave their jobs Oct. 6 under a directive by county manager Samuel O. Montoya. The memo requires all employees running for office to take leave without pay 20 days before election day. The seven include Marie Lorraine Gallegos, Winifred Rusk, Hannah Baca, Dora Brito, Elmer Martinez, and Juanita Cordova, all seeking or reelection. Montoya calls the rule a step in a personnel code under consideration and says the practice is common in the state.
